[News] Kim Hyun Joong Beats DBSK for Best-Selling Single by Korean Artist in Japan

Kim Hyun Joong’s Heat is showing no signs of slowing down.

Kim Hyun Joong’s second single album was released in July this year where it placed first on the Oricon daily singles chart, first on the weekly singles chart and third for the monthly singles chart.

According to the latest aggregated sales totals, Heat has, since its release, so far sold 200,580 copies this year.

The sales figure easily bests the combined sales total of other Japanese singles by Korean artists this year including Super Junior’s Opera (184,000 copies) and DBSK’s Android (175,000 copies), giving Kim Hyun Joong bragging rights as having the best selling Japanese single by a Korean artist so far this year.

[News] Kim Hyun Joong Reaches #1 AGAIN on Oricon’s Import Albums Chart

Kim Hyun Joong has done it again.

The singer previously hit #1 on Oricon‘s import albums chart with his first solo album ‘Breakdown’, and he’s done it once more with his 2nd mini-album, ‘Lucky’.


Oricon’s weekly chart for November 14th revealed that Kim Hyun Joong came in 1st with ‘Lucky'. He was able to beat out globally famous artists like Coldplay and Lady Gaga, a feat that serves to prove his strong popularity in Japan.


Kim Hyun Joong stated, “Hearing about placing 1st on the Oricon in the midst of traveling around different cities to meet with fans has made me even happier. I will always remember the thoughtfulness of the fans who have been a great support to me, and will try my best to put on the best performance.”


In related news, the singer kicked off his fan meeting tour on the 9th, and will visit 8 different cities in Japan.

Kim Hyun Joong ranked no.1 on Japan’s Oricon Chart, claiming the top spot on the weekly chart of imported album sales with his album Lucky as of November 14. This is the second time Kim has ranked first, after Breakdown in July.

The Oricon Chart, the country’s most famous music chart, determines ranking based on album sales.

Most notably, Kim beat out global pop stars like Coldplay and Lady Gaga who ranked within the top 10.

Kim, who is currently on a nationwide fan meeting tour titled, Kim Hyun Joong-First Tour 2011 in Japan, said, “I’m all the more pleased to hear the news of topping the Oricon Chart while I’m on the tour in several cities to meet fans. I’ll make an effort to put on the best performance while remembering the fans who always give me strength.”

With the release of two mini solo albums this year, Kim solidified his status as a hallyu star in Japan, and further proved his popularity by selling out tickets to the national tour immediately after sales began in September. Reportedly, those same tickets are being resold for 15 times more than the original price.

Having started his tour in Osaka on November 9, Kim completed fan meetings in Sapporo, Sendai, and Hiroshima before moving on to Yokohama, Nagoya, Tokyo, and Fukuoka.
