On the other hand, with popularity always comes more attention, which may not be what Moon Geun Young and Do Dae Yoon were looking for. And while marriage is good, and divorce happens, was there a need to keep it all so hush hush, Jeong Jun Il?
Check out who made it on top and who got stuck on bottom.
1. Kim Hyun Joong
Jang Keun Suk may be the prince of Asia, but Kim Hyun Joong proved he isn′t losing his grip on his title as King. Not only did he pull ahead in our poll for Most Successful Hallyu Star, he managed to draw a crowd of 6,000 to his 2012 Kim Hyun Joong Fan Meeting in Seoul.
The King also released his Japanese music video for Kiss Kiss to much furor and also ranked no.1 on the ‘The Mobile Ringtone Download Daily Chart’ on Recochoku with the song. Basically, Kim is all set to take over Japan with his kisses, and uh, his music.
2. Im Si Wan
Till now, ZE:A′s most famous member has been Kwang Hee - the loud-mouthed idol known for mostly for being super open about his plastic surgery. But now, the group has another stand-out member: Im Si Wan.
The rookie actor took on the role of Heo Yeom in the mega-hit drama The Sun and the Moon and managed tocaptivate viewers with his honest acting. The producer, Kim Do Hoon, even said, “[The popularity of the character] would be impossible without Im Si Wan.”
And he only had 10 hours of training! Too bad his character has grown up, so we won′t be seeing more of him inThe Sun and the Moon, but we′re betting we′ll see him in another big piece sometime soon.
3. SM Entertainment
We knew SM was trying to go global, but we didn′t realize just how many people loved SM until we saw it in cold hard numbers. Over 10 million people like SM Entertainment and its artists on Facebook, which means the company′s Facebook page is the most liked page among Asian music labels and the second most liked in the world.
The artists aren′t doing too shabby either - SHINee′s concert DVD hit no.2 on the Oricon Chart, Jessica is set torelease a duet with Kim Jin Pyo for Wild Romance, Girls′ Generation rocked Hong Kong and Go Ara is generating great press for her career-changing role in PaPa.
Meanwhile, BoA is doing her thing repping SM on K-Pop Star, so we have a feeling she′ll be bringing in more talent very soon.
4. A Pink
Speaking of new talent, A Pink has pretty much solidified its status as the most successful new girl group of 2011. The sweet and sassy group won the rookie award, along with B1A4 and Boyfriend, at the 21st High 1 Seoul Music Awards.
It′s safe to say the group dominated all the many, many other girl groups this year, as they′ve won three other rookie awards so far. Congratulations!
