Kim Hyun Joong and the Nine Beauties

with Dream High's Kim Bo reum, Korea's leading style icon welcomed young beauties from nine countries in Seoul, South Korea.


     Through the picture windows, we could see the orange glow of the setting sun shimmering on the Han River that runs through Seoul, from east to west, before flowing into the Yellow Sea. It was a summer day, but the evening was cold and windy, especially in the riverfront.

     We were on the Fradia, a modern dining and events space floating on the Han, literally adrift on the water, all three storeys of it encased in clear glass to give us a 360-degrees view of the river and the surroundings cityscape.

     But among the guests of leading Korean cosmetics and skincare brand The Face Shop, delegations of them from nine countries in Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, all eyes were on the stage, where stood Korean top celebrity, style icon, and The Face Shop spokesperson Kim Hyun Joong with Dream High debutante and co-spokesperson Kim Bo Reum. Both young stars proved to be a perfect embodiment of the ideals of The Face Shop with their luminous skin and healthy blush on their cheeks and their lips. To Kim Hyun Joong, better known in the world as Yoon Ji Hoo, his role in the hit TV series Boys Over Flowers, where he first gained international stardom, The Face Shop is no stranger. He has
represented the brand since 2010, not only in South Korea, but also in twenty-two countries worldwide. 

     Decked in green and white, the colors specified in the invitations, the guests clamored for more of Kim Hyun Joong. The twenty-six year old, after all, is a multihyphenate. In high school, he was the bass guitarist in a singer but also as the face of the boy band SS501. Now on his own, Kim Hyun Joong has released three mini albums-- his solo debut Break Down, Lucky, and the digital Marry You/ Marry Me. Other than music and acting. he is also a model with growing list of major endorsements, The Face Shop included, in a commercial for which the single "Magic of the Yellow Ribbon" off the bestselling sophomore album Lucky was used.

     Not only is Kim Hyun Joong popular, he is also acclaimed, with many awards under his belt, including Best Actor for Seoul's Drama Awards (2009) ; Top Buzz Korean Artist at the Yahoo Buzz Awards (2009-2011 in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea) ; Most Influential Star at Mnet 20's Choice Awards (2010) ; Best Male Solo Artist at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (2011) ; and Best Solo Artist in Allkpop Awards (2012). His style icon and popularity awards are numerous and his influence is not limited to Korea, but extends to Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the Philippines.
