Winners at the Korean Entertainment Awards in Japan

Hallyu stars Bae Yong Joon and Yoon Eun Hye won the top acting awards at the Korean Entertainment 10th Anniversary Awards in Japan held on Oct. 19 at Makuhari International Exhibition Center in Chiba City.

The awards ceremony recognized the popularity of Hallyu, or the Korean Wave, in Japan, which was sparked by the 2002 hit Korean drama “Winter Sonata” that starred Bae Yong Joon and Choi Ji Woo.

It aired in Japan in 2004 and solidified the status of the two stars there and other countries as well.

“Winter Sonata” was recognized as the top Korean drama at the awards. “Rooftop Prince,” starring JYJ’s Park Yoochun and actress Han Ji-min, was second, followed by “You’re Beautiful,” “Princess’ Man” and “Princess Hours” (also known as “Love in Palace” in Japan).

Bae Yong Joon won the top drama actor award. Yoochun was second followed by Jang Geun Suk, Kim Hyun Joong and Hyun Bin.

Yoon Eun Hye, who starred in such hits as “Princess Hours” and “Coffee Prince,” won the best actress award. Runner-ups were Choi Ji Woo, Kim Sun Ah, Han Hyo Joo and Ha Ji-won.
Kim Jae Wok won the jury’s special award.

In the Korean music category, TVXQ won in the Best Male Group category. Big Bang was in second place and JYJ in third place followed by Super Junior and SHINee.

KARA won the Best Female Group award followed by Girls’ Generation, 2NE1, f(x) and SISTAR.

Kim Hyun Joong won the Best Male Solo award followed by G-Dragon, Seungri, JYJ’s Kim JaeJoong and JYJ’s Kim Junsu.

In the Best Female Solo category, IU won the award. BoA was second followed by Lee Hyori, Ailee and G.NA.

Boy band Boyfriend won the jury’s special award.
